“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” John 14:6

Today’s Christian daily devotional

“You never mentioned that you were a smoker.” Russ cleared his throat. Lisa’s large purse had toppled over. She cringed at her carelessness. Those Marlboro lights she had so carefully tucked away were now in plain view.

“Oh, well you never asked.” Smiling coyly she scooped up the spilled contents.

Things were going so well!  This was their third date and after being single for more than four years, Lisa was more than ready to meet the man of her dreams. She desperately wanted to settle down and start that family she had been dreaming about.

Her heart dropped. She hoped that her smoking habit wouldn’t be a deal-breaker for Russ.

Of course, as soon as Lisa hit the dating scene, she made a list of the ideal traits that she required her ‘dream man’ to have.

But, Lisa failed to take into account that her perfect guy might also have some requirements of his very own!

John 14:6 is a very concrete verse.  In this world of political correctness, it can be hard one to swallow for those who don’t want to believe that Jesus is the only way.

But, the bottom line is, if we as humans have standards that we live by that are crucial for us, what makes us think that God doesn’t have them, either?

If you have some reservations about believing the words of John 14: 6, I challenge you to really look into what you believe and why you believe it.

I challenge you to research the words of Jesus; read what He said and hear what He did. Not everything Jesus uttered sat well with everyone who heard it. But, then again, many people aren’t really searching for the truth. They want to hear what makes them feel good about the current path they have already chosen.

They’re unwilling to change lanes even if they discover they are in the wrong one!

Being strong-willed can be a good thing if you are determined to find the truth.  But, stubbornness can be a snare if you must have it ‘your way’ despite the painful truth.

A wise man once said: “The road to hell is paved with good intentions.” Don’t take the easy path.  Take the right one.

“Dear Heavenly Father,

I have an addiction.  It is an addiction to being comfortable.  In this world of constant stress, I just want to relax.  I see I have relaxed in the things that really matter.

I have let my determination in searching for the truth drop down in importance.

Lord, I need to scale back on the things that are keeping me so busy that I have not taken the time to look into the things that really matter in life.

Because I have no idea when my last breath will be, I don’t have the luxury of being lazy about my eternal destiny.

Tomorrow could be my last day to live.  Lord, let this reality really sit with me. Help me to say no to the activities that are distracting me from having an open heart as look into the Bible and search for the truth.

Help me to find you, Lord.  Help me to be vigilant in my search for the truth.  And, open my heart to the idea that if Jesus is the only way, allow me to just accept this instead of fighting it.

I am searching for the truth.  Bless my search and guide me, God.  Open my spiritual eyes like never before.  In Jesus’ precious name, to spend an eternity with you, Amen.”
